Let's try this again! Back to Blogging!

After a long hiatus from blogging.....I am going to try this again. I want to leave my over ambitiousness at the door! I hope to blog more often and shorter entries than my first!
It would take something very monumental to get my blogging fingers a-typing! So the new president elect has me just as excited and emotional like everyone else I know! I mean it is a symbol that yes...we can. Not just change the president. We can change the country starting in our own neighborhood and in our own communities. Those of us who support President Elect Obama should look to his ground work in Chicago and see what we can do in his footsteps. I for one am making it my mission to contact my local politicians...not just to get inaugural tickets (cause I plan on doing that, for sure) but to see how I can be more responsible as a citizen. I plan to be more aware of local elected officials and hold them accountable and hold myself accountable...the way many, many people will be holding Obama accountable. Ok I am stepping down from the soap box right about now.

What is Wrong With These Women?

As per usual I find myself shopping in the mall. (with 85 cents but I digress) And of course this is couple-ville U.S.A. When my eye spots two walking so similar. But not two men or two women...(despite the rush to Cali to get hitched by all the non traditional or alternative lovers or what ever you want to call these children of God) but a man and a woman. So who cares right? I know I've had my fill of laughs at will and grace. But this appeared to be a couple. And this is not the first time. It is a growing epidemic. I don't know why the non celebrity have not learned a damn thang from Star Jones or Terri McMillan. I know a good employed black man without "fitty-leven" baby mamas are hard to find but sheesh ladies. Get a grip. Get a cut buddy. Lastly get a clue. This is NOT the road you wanna go down. Talk about potholes that can jack up your suspension. (Yeah go ahead and visualize how that analogy applies.)

There have got to be some signs that you look out for!
Here is a list of 5 things that should make you run....run from the natural disaster of dating/marrying a delusional gay man. ( I refuse to use that other term as it makes me sick!)

  1. When you are walking with your boo near a reflective surface and your hip motion is just like his or not as feminine or "switchy" as his.
  2. He sometimes lays on the bed to put on his jeans ....cause they are so tight
  3. He rolls his eyes and follows this up with a smack or sucking of the teeth when refering to you.
  4. He no longer wants any non anal sex. I mean NONE.
  5. All your friends think your man is gay...& you think HIS male friends are gay.
Now I am not the dream killer or a gay basher. All I'm saying is if you gon' be gay...be gay. Be the gayest you can be. And for the ladies....it is just not cute that our man styles your hair better than you. Functional yes. Sexy....I think NOT!

Favorites!!! Pt. 1

Many times in life we have to take pleasure in the little things. I say several times a day:
Thank GOD for small miracles. Some people some, products, some places, some seasons are just great....I mean the BEST! So this entry is dedicated to some of the products that help me get through the day. Talk about counting your blessings. When I started this I thought I was going to do a top 10. WRONG. I don't even have a final count. But at any rate. Let's get this list started, shall we?

Products:
Dove Deodorant: Cause really the skin under your armpits deserves to be all soft and "girly" too! Not to mention who likes all the damn school chalk under your arms when wearing a tank top. NOT SEXY.

Spanx: This refers only to the half slip and full slip thighs and in our culture this is a good thing. However when products. The whole footless control top pantyhose idea was lost and I mean LOST on me. I have been blessed with plenty of desiring smooth lines who wants to see that damn line around the thigh where the control stops? ANd pantyhose are already uncomfortable so why encourage wearing something just as uncomfortable...wait a minute this is a favorite post so let me stick with what I like. The dress slimmer is magic. Takes you down like half a size for those "goal" clothes we ladies have and like to squeeze into. A nice flouncy skirt looks sexier when it is smooth and getting...um into your boo-tay crevice.

Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint Candles: I LOVE I mean LUV this scent. I have this candle burning almost every night when I get home. I also like the linen spray as well. It really calms me down. I was introduced to this via a gift because I normally hate anything minty (save a mojito). Mmmmm Mojito!

Berry Butter: Now I know everybody & their mama's are touting shea butter. Whether it is in a retail store or from the flea market. But this stuff is great to me. The variety of scents and the mix of shea with other basic natural ingredients makes it a great to use and it isn't all broken up in a plastic bag like at the flea market. I hate that. I feel all smooth and shiny! Just like I'm supposed to be!

V8 Fusion: Have you tried it? It is addicting. Healthy? Can you drink too much? If so don't spoil my dream by informing me of any down points. No one like a dream killer!

Strawberry Granola from BJ wholesale Club. This stuff is the best. Whether you eat it straight out of the bag or you add milk and eat it hot cereal style it is plain TASTY! I got to come up on a BJ's card....been mooching this stuff!

Pear's Soap. If you are say super sensitive in the areas that don't see the sun...this is it! I can only find it in weird locations but it is worth it to not be irritated & have a glycerin soap that lasts.

Kashi Autumn: Now it looks nasty. It isn't the most tasty cereal you will ever have. But it kicks mini-wheats ass. If you like high fiber content and trust me....it is something you pay attention to once you hit 30....than you may want to give this cereal a try.

These are the products that get me from week to week. It would have been too long to include services in this post. That will be favorites pt 2.

First Blog Ever!

Inspired by my home-skillets that are interested in some tunes other than the heavy rotated and formulaic ...um err creations pumping on the popular "urban" radio stations, I've decided to make my first post ever musically liberating! Liberated from the ordinary and a bit of a dab into some lesser known items. During a discussion yesterday, some of my pals said they were interested in sampling some music so that they can be more aware of artists that are quite frankly slept on. For every Amy Winehouse there is an equally talented Sharon Jones. So for the first entry I've decided to share the tunes I am listening to. Sweating them if you will. Since this is my first post, I'm just gonna slap some links on here a few tracks. I am not trying to keep any truly talented artists from eating so I will only give out tracks to encourage folks to go out and support them.

Sharon Jones - Be Easy
Very old school & bluesy. She reminds me of several ladies from the Baptist church I grew up in who can belt out Blessed Assurance. She uses the same band that backed Amy Winehouse. Heavy on the horns.

Ledisi - In the Morning Now, if you haven't heard of Ledisi, I have no words for you, homey. She is the truth. A real vocalist. This latest album is her breakthrough in to mainstream recognition though she's been around for a minute. This is one of my FAVORITE tracks from her latest album. Lost & Found. If you like Jill Scott, Syleena Johnson, Keyshia Coles, Angie Stone, etc.... you will have an appreciation for her talent.

Algebra Blessett -
At this Time, Tug of War Ok, this is her first album (Purpose) & currently I am sweating her talent. Her tracks are in heavy rotation in my ride, at work and on my mp3 player at the gym. Beautiful voice. Reminds me of India Arie. Atlanta native and I simply am a fan....what else can I say?

Alice Smith - Love Endeavor
This lady just reminds me of seventies cool. Don't know why but it is very laid back and easy going.

Estelle - You Are
Dare I say her album is going to be hot. It drops in two days and she is a much needed refreshment to today's R&B/Soul music. This track is a nice duet with John Legend
.

Gnarls Barkley - Whose Gonna Save My Soul

Latest from the far out duo....this is my favorite track at this time from the CD. Got to LOVE Cee-Lo!

OK there are some tracks are not necessarily new ...as in not within the last 12 months, BUT, they are new to me! I enjoy discovering new/old stuff. Except when the production is too dated.

Kevin Micheal - We All Want the Same Things
Nice chill track. Kevin has a high as hell voice but it is interstin g and he uses all his vocal abilities on this track.

Dave Ghetto - Struggle

Hip hop track with some nice vocals from Yahzarah. This dud has a nice flow....to me. Though I must state my disclaimer as I am not a hip hop/rap expert but I know what I like! This I like!

Van Hunt - Mean Sleep

I mean what can I say. Vant Hunt's prince inspired artistic style is much appreciated over some other artists who merely do a cheap prince imitation with guitar licks blaring in the background and everyone yells, "He is sexy like Prince!" I actually heard a DJ comparing The Dream to prince when describing the "hit" single falsetto made me sick. If you want an artist that is unique in his own right while reminiscent of THE ARTIST then this guy does it. This is a mellow duet with Nikka Costa (chick with the like a feather song from a few year's back).

Esthero - Gone

Since I am a huge fan of Cee-Lo, I actually only found this song because he was featured on it. This selection was a pleasant surprise as all I really knew of Esthero was that she was featured on a Black Eye Peas single (pre-Fergie) some years back. She has a melodic and easy voice that fits nicely.

Okay, this does it for my first post. Enjoy & look for future evolution!

Peace Out!
